Meet Mathew Mueller

1. Tell me about yourself

I was born and raised in the eastern plains of Colorado. After taking some medical classes in college, I felt called to join the Army as a combat medic. After serving in the Army for 6 years. I was medically retired from the Army after a car accident that broke my neck and all the bones in the right side of my face resulting in only having use of one of my eyes. I moved to Phoenix after getting out of the Army and started attending Valley Life in 2016. In 2017 I felt the Lord call me to the mission of Valley Life to “make disciples and plant churches, specifically church planting.

I met and married my wife Tracy in 2011 and we have one daughter, Briella, who we adopted in June of this year.

2. What is your vision for Valley Life North Peoria

The Vision of Valley Life North Peoria is to follow the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. We desire to see gospel community thrive in the growing communities of North Peoria. With the North West part of the Valley being one of the fastest growing parts of the Valley, we know that there will be people who move to the area who don’t have a church community, people who don’t know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and people who have lived in the area for a while who have been waiting for a church community to call home. It is our desire to reach those people in an effort to make disciples who will help plant more churches that will spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. We will be a church that lives out our values of Beauty, Brokenness, Truth, Compassion, and Community. As a mission outpost for the gospel, we desire to equip and send out believers who will help spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

3. How have you seen Jesus change your life personally, and the lives around you?

Jesus has drastically changed my life; taking me from the pits of depression, abuse, lust, and pride and has given me a new identity in Him. He has given me hope; hope not in the things of this world that are broken due to sin, but hope in an eternity with a God who loves me so much he sent His son to die for my sins.

The power of the gospel though has also changed the lives of others too, who are on mission to see the gospel spread throughout North Peoria and the world. People like my friend Garrett, who, before becoming a Christian, was struggling in his marriage, as a father, with drugs, alcohol along with an anger problem that caused him to hurt others and himself. After hearing the gospel, repenting of his sins, and putting his faith in Jesus, Garrett fought to turn his life around, with the help of gospel Community found at Valley Life. He started sharing and living out the gospel in his home to his wife and kids. Garrett would later baptize his friend from work and help share the gospel with his friends who were caught up in the things that once ensnared him. While Garrett still knows that he is a sinner, he desires to be a sinner with hope, hope in Jesus Christ and His finished work.

Valley Life is filled with stories of people without hope, finding hope; people with deep pains finding healing and peace through the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have been and always will be a safe place for broken people to come and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ in a welcoming environment, without fear, judgement, or pressure to be anything more than who God made them to be.
